Description
G-Mag Sulph injection for the treatment of hypomagnesaemia, magnesium deficiency, irregular heart beats, laxative, anticonvulsant properties, prevention or control of seizures, bronchial asthma, cardiovascular disorder
Composition
- Magnesium sulphate heptahydrate BP
- 50% solution
- 4% solution

Pharmacology
Magnesium is essential for enzyme systems, energy generation, neurochemical transmission, muscular excitability, intracellular fluids
Indications
- Hypomagnesaemia treatment
- Irregular heart beats treatment
- Laxative
- Anticonvulsant properties
- Seizure prevention
- Bronchial asthma treatment
- Cardiovascular disorder treatment
Dosage & Administration
- Adult Dose:
- Intramuscular 1-5g daily
- Intravenous 1-4g
- Electrolyte replenisher 1-2g 4 times a day
- Usual dose range 1-40g daily
- Pediatric Dose:
- Intramuscular 20-40 mg/kg body weight
- For Eclampsia 1-2g initially, 1g every 30 mins
- Use in Children & Adolescents: Beneficial in moderate to severe asthma as adjuvant therapy

Interaction
- With Medicine:
- Reduction in blood pressure with Calcium channel blockers
- Increase in effects of neuromuscular blocking agents
- With Food & Others: No interaction with food & others
Contraindications
Defect of heart's electrical message pathways, severe damage to myocardium, significantly decreased kidney function
Side Effects
- Common:
- Hypermagnesaemia
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Flushing of skin
- Thirst
- Hypotension
- Drowsiness
- Confusion
- Muscle weakness
- Rare: Diarrhea, skin irritation after soaking
Pregnancy & Lactation
Crosses placenta, caution in pregnant women, unknown excretion in human milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Administer with caution in impaired renal function or digitalis glycosides use
- Monitor blood pressure, respiratory rate, urinary output, signs of overdose
Overdose Effects
Respiratory depression, loss of deep tendon reflexes, nausea, vomiting, hypotension, muscle weakness
