Indications
- Indicated in zinc deficiency and/or zinc losing conditions
- Useful in trauma, burns, diarrhea, and protein losing conditions
- Recommended in severe malabsorption and metabolic disease
Pharmacology
- Essential trace element for body enzyme systems
- Vital for normal growth, sexual maturation, and reproduction
- Important for immune function, wound healing, and sensory activities
Dosage
- Child under 10 kg: 5 ml (1 teaspoonful) 2 times daily after food
- Child between 10-30 kg: 10 ml (2 teaspoonfuls) 1-3 times daily after food
- Adults and child over 30 kg: 20 ml (4 teaspoonfuls) 1-3 times daily after food
Administration
- Dispersible tablet instructions: place in a teaspoon, add water, dissolve completely, and administer
Interaction
- Concomitant intake of tetracycline and zinc may decrease absorption
- Concomitant administration of zinc and quinolone drug may decrease absorption
- Concomitant intake of penicillamine and zinc may decrease absorption
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation
Side Effects
- Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset, heartburn, gastritis
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safety in human pregnancy not established
- Zinc crosses placenta and is present in breast milk
