Pharmacology
- Aqueous solution of crystalline Amino Acid and D-Sorbitol with electrolytes
- Contains all 18 essential and non-essential amino acids for protein synthesis
- Clear color, pH range of 5.0 to 7.0
Dosage & Administration
- 0.10-0.25 g nitrogen/kg/day dosage range
- Infusion rate of 1.4-2.8 ml (30-60 drops) per minute
- Different dosage for obese patients and children/infants
Interaction
- No expected pharmacological effects or interactions at recommended dosage
Contraindications
- Patients with inborn errors of amino acids metabolism
- Severe liver dysfunction
- Severe uremia without dialysis facilities
- Patients with hyperosmolar nonketotic diabetic coma
Side Effects
- Rarely nausea, vomiting, flushing and sweating
- Transient increases in liver test
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Thrombophlebitis with peripheral vein use
- Incidence reduced by simultaneous infusion of 10% fat emulsion
- Hyperphenylalaninemia in severely ill, premature infants

- Reported safe administration during pregnancy
- No animal reproduction studies carried out
Precautions & Warnings
- Increased urinary excretion of trace elements
- Hyperphenylalaninemia in severely ill, premature infants
- Caution in patients with diabetes, severe heart failure, renal function, and fluid restrictions
- Monitoring recommended for serum potassium and blood glucose
- Additional phosphate supply for patients with hypophosphatemia
Overdose Effects
- Nausea, vomiting, sweating at higher rates
- Thrombophlebitis with peripheral vein use
- Osmotic diuresis, dehydration, and hyperglycemia symptoms
