Pharmacology
- Sterile aqueous solution of crystalline Amino Acid and D-Sorbitol with electrolytes
- Clear, colorless to pale yellow colored solution
- Positive nitrogen balance for postoperative period and extended periods of intravenous nutrition
Dosage & Administration
- MaintenanceDose: 0.10-0.25 g nitrogen/kg/day
- DosageRange: 15-35 ml Amino acids IV/kg/day
- InfusionRate:
- 1.4-2.8 ml (30-60 drops) per minute
- 28-35 ml/kg body weight per day in children and infants
Interaction
No pharmacological effects and not expected to interact with other medicaments
Contraindications
- Inborn errors of amino acids metabolism
- Severe liver dysfunction
- Severe uremia when dialysis facilities are not available
- Hyperosmolar nonketotic diabetic coma
Side Effects
- Nausea, vomiting, flushing, sweating
- Transient increases in liver test
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Thrombophlebitis
- Hyperphenylalaninemia in severely ill, premature infants
Pregnancy & Lactation
Reported as successfully and safely administered during pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Increased urinary excretion of trace elements
- Monitoring of phenylalanine levels in premature infants
- Caution in patients with diabetes mellitus, severe heart failure, renal function, hyperglycemia, severe malnutrition, hypophosphatemia
Overdose Effects
- Nausea, vomiting, sweating
- Thrombophlebitis
- Osmotic diuresis with dehydration
- Risk of hyperglycemia symptoms
