Indications

Composition

- Non-essential amino acids include L-Arginine, L-Aspartic Acid, L-Glutamic Acid, L-Alanine, L-Cystine, Glycine, L-Proline, L-Serine
- Contains D-Sorbitol and electrolytes like Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, Chloride, Acetate

Pharmacology
- Sterile aqueous solution of crystalline amino acid and D-Sorbitol with electrolytes
- Contains all 18 essential and non-essential amino acids needed for protein synthesis
- Clear, colorless to pale yellow colored, pH range of 5.0 to 7.0
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage range of 0.10-0.25 g nitrogen/kg/day
- Infusion range of 15-35 ml Amino acids IV/kg/day
- Slow infusion rates of 1.4-2.8 ml (30-60 drops) per minute
- Recommended rate of infusion for children and infants
Interaction
- No expected pharmacological effects or interactions with other medicaments
Contraindications
- Patients with inborn errors of amino acid metabolism
- Severe liver dysfunction
- Severe uremia without dialysis facilities
- Patients with hyperosmolar nonketotic diabetic coma
Side Effects
- Rarely occurring nausea, vomiting, flushing, sweating
- Transient increases in liver test during intravenous nutrition
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Thrombophlebitis when using peripheral veins
- Possible hyperphenylalaninemia in severely ill, premature infants
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Reported successful and safe administration during pregnancy
- No animal reproduction studies conducted
Precautions & Warnings
- Increased urinary excretion of trace elements copper and zinc
- Monitoring of phenylalanine level in severely ill, premature infants
- Caution in patients with diabetes mellitus, severe heart failure, or renal function
- Warning for refeeding carbohydrates triggering thiamine deficiency syndrome
- Recommendation for serum potassium and blood glucose monitoring
- Additional supply of phosphate for patients with hypophosphatemia
Overdose Effects
- Risk of nausea, vomiting, sweating with higher infusion rate
- Thrombophlebitis and osmotic diuresis with dehydration
- Symptoms related to hyperglycemia
- Recommendation to slow down or discontinue infusion in case of overdose symptoms
