Indications
- Source of amino acids for protein synthesis
- Suitable for patients with basal amino acid requirements
- Helps in faster recovery in surgery, burns, renal insufficiency, hepatic insufficiency and effective management of cancer
Composition
- Contains essential and non-essential amino acids
- Includes electrolytes like sodium, potassium, magnesium, and chloride
- Total nitrogen content of 7.25 gm/L

Pharmacology
- Sterile aqueous solution of crystalline Amino Acid and D-Sorbitol
- Contains all 18 essential and non-essential amino acids for protein synthesis
- Clear, colorless to pale yellow colored solution
- pH range of 5.0 to 7.0
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage depends on the patient's condition and metabolic stress level
- Infused slowly at rates of 1.4-2.8 ml (30-60 drops) per minute
- Different dosage range for children, infants, and obese patients
Interaction
- No pharmacological effects expected at recommended dosage
- Not expected to interact with other medicaments
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with inborn errors of amino acids metabolism
- Not suitable for severe liver dysfunction and severe uremia without dialysis facilities
- Contraindicated in patients with hyperosmolar nonketotic diabetic coma
Side Effects
- Nausea, vomiting, flushing, and sweating at high infusion rates
- Transient increase in liver tests during intravenous nutrition
- Hypersensitivity reactions reported
- Thrombophlebitis may occur with peripheral vein usage
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Successful and safe administration reported during pregnancy in humans
- No animal reproduction studies carried out
Precautions & Warnings
- Increased urinary excretion of trace elements like copper and zinc
- Monitoring of phenylalanine level recommended in severely ill, premature infants
- Caution needed in patients with diabetes mellitus and severe heart failure
- Refeeding carbohydrates can trigger thiamine deficiency syndrome in severely malnourished patients
- Monitoring of serum potassium and blood glucose recommended
Overdose Effects
- Risk of nausea, vomiting, sweating, and thrombophlebitis with higher than recommended rates
- Osmotic diuresis with dehydration may occur
- Risk of symptoms related to hyperglycemia
- Infusion should be slowed down or discontinued in case of overdose symptoms
