Pharmacology
- Sterile aqueous solution of crystalline Amino Acid and D-Sorbitol with electrolytes
- Contains all 18 essential and non-essential amino acids needed for protein synthesis
- Clear, colorless to pale yellow colored, pH range of 5.0 to 7.0
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage varies based on patient's condition and nutritional state
- Infusion range: 0.10-0.25 g nitrogen/kg/day
- Slow infusion rate: 1.4-2.8 ml (30-60 drops) per minute
- Recommended rate of infusion for children and infants: 28-35 ml/kg body weight per day

No expected pharmacological effects or interactions with other medicaments
Contraindications
- Inborn errors of amino acids metabolism
- Severe liver dysfunction
- Severe uremia without dialysis facilities
- Hyperosmolar nonketotic diabetic coma
Side Effects
- Nausea (rare)
- Vomiting, flushing, sweating at high infusion rates
- Transient increases in liver test during intravenous nutrition
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Thrombophlebitis with peripheral vein use
Pregnancy & Lactation
Reported successful and safe administration during human pregnancy, no animal reproduction studies
Precautions & Warnings
- Increased urinary excretion of trace elements during IV infusion
- Monitoring of phenylalanine level in premature infants
- Caution in patients with diabetes mellitus, severe heart failure, renal function restrictions
- Potential for thiamine deficiency in severely malnourished patients
- Monitoring of serum potassium and blood glucose recommended
Overdose Effects
- Risk of nausea, vomiting, sweating at higher than recommended rates
- Thrombophlebitis with peripheral vein use
- Osmotic diuresis and dehydration
- Symptoms related to hyperglycemia
