Indications

Composition

  • Sodium Chloride BP 1.30 gm
  • Potassium Chloride BP 0.75 gm
  • Trisodium Citrate Dihydrate BP 1.45 gm
  • Glucose Anhydrous BP 6.75 gm

Pharmacology

  • Preparation of oral rehydration salt
  • Single formulation of glucose based oral rehydration salt
  • Prevents dehydration from diarrhea of any etiology
  • Prevents acidosis due to electrolyte imbalance

Dosage

  • Equivalent to patients' fluid requirement for maintenance and replenishment of losses
  • Children less than 2 years: 50-100 mL after each loose stool or vomiting
  • Children 2 to 10 years: 100-200 mL after each loose stool or vomiting
  • Adults and children above 10 years: 200-400 mL after each loose stool or vomiting

Administration

  • Disperse the full contents of the sachet in 500 mL (1/2 liter) of pure drinking water
  • Do not mix with hot water or heat the prepared solution
  • Discard unused prepared oral saline after 12 hours of preparation

Interaction

  • No known drug interactions

Precautions & Warnings

  • Depressed renal function may need supplementation with parenteral fluids along with oral saline
  • Severe continuing diarrhea or critical fluid losses may need supplementation with parenteral fluids along with oral saline
