Virgo's Orsaline 10.25 gm (Oral Powder)

Indications

• Helps in replacement of fluid and electrolyte loss
• For acute diarrhea
• For vomiting
• For dehydration
• Useful for other conditions of fluid loss or lack of intake

Composition

• Each sachet contains Sodium Chloride BP 1.30 gm
• Each sachet contains Potassium Chloride BP 0.75 gm
• Each sachet contains Trisodium Citrate Dihydrate BP 1.45 gm
• Each sachet contains Glucose Anhydrous BP 6.75 gm

Pharmacology

• Preparation of oral rehydration salt
• Composed of glucose, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, and sodium citrate
• Formulated to treat or prevent dehydration from diarrhea
• Prevents acidosis due to electrolyte imbalance

Dosage

• Daily dose equivalent to patients' fluid requirement
• Children less than 2 years: 50-100 mL after each loose stool or vomiting
• Children 2 to 10 years: 100-200 mL after each loose stool or vomiting
• Adults and children above 10 years: 200-400 mL after each loose stool or vomiting

Administration

• Disperse the full contents of the sachet in 500 mL of pure drinking water
• Do not mix with hot water or heat the solution
• Discard the unused prepared oral saline after 12 hours

Interaction

• No known drug interactions

Precautions & Warnings

• Supplementation with parenteral fluids may be necessary for depressed renal function or severe continuing diarrhea
