Indications

Composition

Sodium Chloride BP 1.30 gm
Potassium Chloride BP 0.75 gm
Trisodium Citrate Dihydrate BP 1.45 gm
Glucose Anhydrous BP 6.75 gm

Pharmacology

Oral rehydration salt composition of glucose, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, and sodium citrate to treat or prevent dehydration from diarrhea of any etiology, including cholera, and to prevent acidosis due to electrolyte imbalance

Dosage

Daily dose equivalent to patients' fluid requirement for maintenance and replenishment of losses
Children less than 2 years: 50-100 mL after each loose stool or vomiting
Children 2 to 10 years: 100-200 mL after each loose stool or vomiting
Adult and children above 10 years: 200-400 mL after each loose stool or vomiting

Administration

Disperse the full contents of the sachet in 500 mL of pure drinking water
Do not mix with hot water or heat the prepared solution
Discard the unused prepared oral saline after 12 hours of preparation

Interaction

No known drug interactions

Precautions & Warnings

Depressed renal function may need supplementation with parenteral fluids
For severe continuing diarrhea or other critical fluid losses, supplementation with parenteral fluids along with oral saline may be required
