Description
Libott 5% Dextrose Solution is administered to treat carbohydrate and fluid depletions, replace water deficiency, treat low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), insulin shock, or dehydration, and provide nutritional support to patients. It is used for emergency management of hyperkalemia, during treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis, and also as a suitable vehicle for the slow intravenous infusion of numerous drugs.

- Warmth, redness, oozing, or bleeding at the IV site
- Fever, ongoing cough
- High blood sugar, headache, trouble concentrating, memory problems, weakness, fainting, seizure, shallow breathing
- Low potassium or anxiety, sweating, pale skin, severe shortness of breath, fast or uneven heart rate
Administration Steps
- Check infusion set and solution prior to use
- Tear off protective cover of Eurocap
- Gently open flow regulator and insert administration set spike to Eurocap
- Clean venipuncture site with antiseptic solution and secure taping of puncture site and tubing
- Start infusion while adjusting drip speed
