Fructose 10%w/v (IV Infusion)

Indications

• Intravenous use as a carbohydrate nutrient
• Conversion to liver glycogen
• Rapid metabolism without requiring insulin
• Fluid replacement
• Caloric feeding
• Nitrogen sparing effect

Dosage

• Dependence on patient requirements and physician judgment
• Infusion rate not to exceed 0.5-1 gm/kg per hour
• Usual recommended flow rate for adults: 30-75 drops per minute

Administration

• Pre-use check of infusion set and solution
• Tearing off protective cover of Eurocap
• Attaching administration set firmly to the needle
• Cleaning venipuncture site with antiseptic solution
• Gradually allowing fluid to flow down to the needletip
• Adjusting drip speed

Contraindications

• Inborn errors of fructose metabolism
• Methyl alcohol poisoning
• Hyperuricemia
• Liver failure
• Lactic acidosis

Side Effects

• Lactic acidosis
• Hyperuricemia
• Facial flushing
• Abdominal pain
• Sweating

Precautions & Warnings

• Avoid in patients with hereditary fructose intolerance
• Caution in patients with impaired kidney function
• Caution in patients with severe liver damage
• Immediate discontinuation if rigor arises
• Avoid use if solution is cloudy or contains particles
• Do not use after expiry date

Storage Conditions

• Keep below 30°C
• Keep away from light and moisture
