Indications
- Replenishing electrolytes depleted in conditions such as diarrhea, vomiting, and profuse sweating
- Indicated in cholera, diarrhea, vomiting, and fluid loss
Composition
- Sterile solution of Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, and Sodium Acetate
- Each 100 ml contains Sodium Chloride BP 0.5g, Potassium Chloride BP 0.1g, and Sodium Acetate BP 0.393g
- Per liter contains Sodium 134 mmol, Potassium 13 mmol, Chloride 99 mmol, and Acetate 48 mmol
Dosage
- Volume and rate of infusion depends on patient's requirements and physician's judgement
- Varies with age, weight, and clinical condition
Administration
- Check infusion set and solution prior to use
- Follow specific steps for Eurohead and flow regulator
- Insert spike of administration set to Eurohead and fit connector firmly to the needle
- Clean venipuncture site with antiseptic solution before insertion
- Securely tape puncture site and wings
- Adjust drip speed for infusion
Side Effects
- Severe burning, pain, or swelling around the IV needle
- Warmth, redness, oozing, or bleeding where the IV was placed
- Fever and ongoing cough
Precautions & Warnings
- Infuse with caution in patients with electrolyte imbalance-related risks
- Exercise caution in pregnancy, renal impairment, heart failure, pulmonary congestion, head injury, and those receiving potassium sparing diuretics
