Indications
- Treats hypovolemia caused by surgery, hemorrhage, and trauma
- Corrects excessive sweating, severe diarrhea, vomiting, and fluid loss by nephritic kidneys
- Alternative to Sodium Bicarbonate in the treatment of metabolic acidosis
- Used as a fluid and electrolyte replenisher
Composition
- Sterile solution of Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Calcium Chloride, and Sodium Lactate
- Contains specific quantities of Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Calcium Chloride, and Sodium Lactate per 100ml
Dosage
- Volume and rate of infusion dependent on patient's requirements and physician's judgement
- Varies with age, weight, and clinical condition of the patient
- Recommended flow rate up to 100-drops/minute/70 kg body weight
Administration
- Check infusion set and infusion solution prior to use
- Follow specific steps for Eurohead and administration set usage
- Clean and secure veinpuncture site
- Adjust drip speed for infusion
Contraindications
- Relatively contraindicated in patients with diabetes mellitus
Side Effects
- Mild swelling of hands, ankles, and feet from fluid retention
- Rare breathing difficulty and lung issues
- Other possible symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, etc.
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category C
- Not known whether it can cause fetal harm or affect reproduction capacity
- Should be given to a pregnant woman only if clearly needed
Precautions & Warnings
- Do not administer rapidly or for prolonged periods
- Infuse with caution in patients with electrolyte imbalance
- Immediate discontinuation if rigor arises for any reason during the process
- Do not use if the solution is cloudy, contains particles, or after expiry date
