Indications

  • Aid in Hysteroscopy
  • Thromboembolic disorders
  • Prophylaxis of pulmonary embolism or venous thrombosis in moderate- to high-risk patients undergoing surgery
  • Prophylaxis of postoperative thromboembolic disorders
  • Hypovolaemic shock

Pharmacology

  • Dextran produces expansion of plasma volume
  • Reduction of blood viscosity
  • Inhibition of sludging or aggregation of red blood cells
  • Sodium chloride's role in electrolyte and fluid balance
  • Osmotic pressure control
  • Water distribution and restoration of sodium ions

Dosage & Administration

  • Intrauterine usage for aid in hysteroscopy
  • Intravenous usage for thromboembolic disorders
  • Intravenous usage for prophylaxis of pulmonary embolism or venous thrombosis in patients undergoing surgery
  • Intravenous usage for prophylaxis of postoperative thromboembolic disorders
  • Intravenous usage for treatment of hypovolaemic shock

Interaction

  • Enzyme inducers affecting dextran
  • Enzyme inhibitors affecting dextran
  • Potential effect on serum concentrations of lithium by sodium chloride

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity
  • Severe renal disease with oliguria or anuria
  • Marked cardiac decompensation
  • Pregnancy
