Plasmex 6%+0.9% (IV Infusion)

Indications

• Treatment of low blood volumes (hypovolaemia) in adults and children
• Prevention of low blood volumes (hypovolaemia) in adults and children
• Plasma volume substitutes
• Stabilizes blood pressure

Composition

• Active substances include Poly (O-2-hydroxyethyl) starch, Sodium acetate trihydrate, Sodium chloride, Potassium chloride, Magnesium chloride hexahydrate

Dosage & Administration

• Administered by infusion into a vein
• Dosage controlled by physician
• Maximum daily dose is up to 50 ml per kg of body weight
• Use in children and adolescents after careful evaluation
• Potential use of diuretic if overdose occurs

Interaction

• Safety and compatibility of other additives not established
• Must not be mixed with other medicinal products

Contraindications

• Severe generalized infection (sepsis)
• Severe liver disease
• Known allergy (hypersensitivity) to hydroxyethyl starch
• Clinical conditions with potential fluid problems
• Pre-existing blood clotting or bleeding disorders
• Kidney failure with little or no urine production
• Receiving dialysis treatment
• Severe increase of potassium, sodium or chloride levels in the blood
• Bleeding in the brain (intracranial bleeding)

Side Effects

• Itching over long periods of time and at high doses
• Prolonged blood clotting time at high dosages
• Potential interference with diagnosis of pancreatitis due to elevated serum amylase levels

Pregnancy & Lactation

• No clinical data on exposed pregnancies available
• Benefits versus potential risk to the baby must be weighed
• Unknown excretion in human milk
• Doctor's advice required for breastfeeding

• Impairment of liver function
• Heart or circulation problems
• Blood clotting (coagulation) disorders
• Kidney problems
• Consideration of salt solutions for serious diseases
• Avoidance in case of kidney disease
• Prohibited use during dialysis treatment
