Indications
- Treatment of pain in osteoarthritis
- Adjuvant in orthopaedic surgery
Pharmacology
- Viscous solution
- High molecular weight fraction
- Buffered physiological sodium phosphate
- pH of 6.8-7.5
- Fundamental for lubricating and shock absorbing properties
- Essential for correct structure of proteoglycans in articular cartilage
Dosage
- Administered by intra-articular injection
- Treatment cycle consists of five injections given at weekly intervals
- Benefit with three injections given at weekly intervals
- 2 ml per knee
- Separate injection for each knee if bilateral treatment
- Treatment may be repeated at 6-12 month interval

- Single use, ready to use, sterile solution
- Must not be diluted
- Requires strict aseptic precautions
- Ready for use and requires only a sterile disposable needle
- Injection site determined by ease of reach
- Injection made using precise anatomical localization
- Aspiration of joint effusion prior to injection
- Patient advised to rest for hours after injection

Interaction
- Not to be administered simultaneously or mixed with other products
- Not to be used concomitantly with disinfectants containing quaternary ammonium salts
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to hyaluronate preparations
- Past and present infections or skin diseases in the area of injection site
Side Effects
- Local reactions such as pain, swelling/effusion, warmth, or redness at injection site
- Transient symptoms that disappear spontaneously within a few days
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safety and effectiveness not established in pregnant women
- Excretion in human milk not known
- Safety and effectiveness not established in lactating mothers
Precautions & Warnings
- Use caution in patients allergic to avian proteins, feathers, and egg products
- Strict aseptic administration technique must be followed
- Recommended avoidance of strenuous activities following injection
