Indications

Pharmacology

  • Disrupts microtubular network in cells
  • Promotes the assembly of tubulin into stable microtubules
  • Inhibits disassembly of microtubules
  • Binds to free tubulin
  • Decreases critical intracellular concentration of tubulin

Dosage & Administration

  • Administered intravenously (IV) over 1 hr every 3 weeks
  • Dosage ranges for different cancer types
  • Facility equipped to manage complications needed for administration
  • Use of PVC equipment not recommended
  • Premedication with oral corticosteroids required
  • Dose adjustment as needed

Interaction

  • CYP3A4 substrate
  • Metabolism may be modified by concomitant administration of certain compounds

Contraindications

  • Patients with neutrophil counts of <1500 cells/mm3
  • History of severe hypersensitivity reactions to docetaxel
  • History of severe hypersensitivity reactions to drugs formulated with polysorbate 80
