Myfortic 360 mg (Tablet (Delayed Release))

Indications

• Prophylaxis of organ rejection in kidney transplant in adult patients
• Prophylaxis of organ rejection in pediatric kidney transplant patients 5 years of age and older

Pharmacology

• Mycophenolic acid is an immunosuppressive agent
• Inhibits inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase (IMPDH)
• Prevents acute rejection of kidney and heart allotransplantation
• Decreases antibody production

Dosage & Administration

• Recommended dose for adult kidney transplant patients: 720 mg twice daily
• Recommended dose for pediatric kidney transplant patients: 400 mg/m2 body surface area (BSA) twice daily

Interaction

• Caution with concomitant administration of specific medicines such as Antacids, Azathioprine, and Cyclosporin

Contraindications

• Not to be used interchangeably with Mycophenolate mofetil without physician supervision

Side Effects

• Most common adverse reactions include anemia, leukopenia, constipation, and urinary tract infection

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy Category D - can cause fetal harm
• Consideration required for nursing during treatment

Precautions & Warnings

• Used with caution due to potential embryofetal toxicity and risk of viral infections
• May cause blood dyscrasias and serious GI tract complications
