Description

- nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug
- inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- peripherally acting analgesic

Pharmacology
- potent analgesic
- non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- minimal anti-inflammatory effect
- prostaglandin synthesis
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet: 10 mg every 4-6 hours
- short-term use (up to 7 days)
- not recommended for chronic use
- Injection: single or multiple doses
- IV bolus over 15 seconds
- IM administration slowly and deeply
- onset within 30 minutes
- maximum effect in 1 to 2 hours
- duration 4 to 6 hours
- Eye Drops: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- Increase side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
- Enhance anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
- Reduce anti-hypertensive effect with Beta Blocker
- Increase risk of renal impairment with ACE Inhibitors
- Enhance toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- hypersensitivity to drug or other NSAIDs
- age below 16 years
