Description

  • Eket is a drug of the pyrrolo-pyrrole group of NSAIDs. Chemically, it is known as 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1). It inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins and may be considered as a peripherally acting analgesic.

Indications

  • Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
  • Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
  • Decrease in eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies

Mode of Action

  • Inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzyme system
  • Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at its analgesic dose

Dosage and Administration

  • Tablet recommended dose of 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use only
  • Injection recommended for moderate to severe acute pain, with specific dosing guidelines for different age groups and conditions
  • Eye Drops: Adults recommended to use 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily

Interactions

  • Increased side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
  • Enhanced anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
