Indications

Management of post-operative pain

Description

Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of NSAIDs
Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
Metabolized in the liver
Excreted in urine

Pharmacology

Potent analgesic
Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose

Dosage & Administration

Recommended dose: 10mg every 4-6 hours
Usable for up to 7 days
Injection for postoperative pain relief
IM and IV dosing for different age groups
Eye drops for ocular application

Interaction

Increased side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
Enhanced anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
Reduced anti-hypertensive effect with beta blockers
Increased risk of renal impairment with ACE inhibitors
Enhanced toxicity of methotrexate

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to drug or NSAIDs
Contraindicated in children under 16 years
Not to be used as prophylactic analgesic before surgery
