Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decrease eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Belongs to the pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID)
- Chemically known as 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Peripherally acting analgesic
- Highly protein bound
- Largely metabolized in the liver
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic
- Inhibits the cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet recommended dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use
- Injection may be used as single or multiple doses for moderately severe, acute pain
- Analgesic effect begins within 30 minutes with maximum effect in 1 to 2 hours after dosing
- Recommended eye drops administration: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- Interacts with other NSAIDs or aspirin, anti-coagulants, beta blockers, ACE inhibitors, and methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to this drug or other NSAIDs
- Use in children under 16 years of age
- Prophylactic analgesic use before surgery

Precautions & Warnings
- Exercise caution in patients over the age of 65 years
- Exercise caution in patients with active or suspected peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, asthma, and liver dysfunction
- Discontinue use of topical NSAIDs in patients with evidence of corneal epithelial breakdown
