Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relieves pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decreases eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Chemical name: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Metabolized in the liver
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Inhibits the cyclooxygenase enzyme system and prostaglandin synthesis
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at its analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet recommended dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours
- Injection recommended dose: Single or multiple doses for management of moderately severe, acute pain
- Multiple dose treatment for patients <65 years and >65 years of age
- Eye drops: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- Other NSAIDs or aspirin: Increase side effects of Kepros
- Anti-coagulants: Enhance anti-coagulant effect
- Beta Blocker: Reduce the anti-hypertensive effect
- ACE Inhibitors: Increase the risk of renal impairment
- Methotrexate: Enhance the toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Not to be used in children under 16 years of age
- Contraindicated as prophylactic analgesic before surgery

Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients over 65 years
- Caution in patients with active or suspected peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, asthma, and liver dysfunction
- Discontinue use of topical NSAIDs in patients with corneal epithelial breakdown
- Do not administer while wearing contact lenses
