Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decrease eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Belongs to the pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID)
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Biological activity associated with the S-form
- Highly protein bound
- Metabolized in the liver
- Products of metabolism and some unchanged drugs excreted in the urine
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Inhibits the cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Demonstrates minimal anti-inflammatory effect at its analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet: Recommended dose is 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use
- Injection: Administered single or multiple doses for the management of moderately severe, acute pain
- Onset of analgesic effect within 30 minutes with maximum effect in 1 to 2 hours
- Duration of analgesic effect is usually 4 to 6 hours
Interaction
- With other NSAIDs or aspirin: Increases the side effects of Kerolac
- With anti-coagulants: Enhances anti-coagulant effect
- With Beta Blocker: Reduces the anti-hypertensive effect
- With ACE Inhibitors: Increases the risk of renal impairment
- With Methotrexate: Enhances the toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Children under 16 years of age
- Prophylactic analgesic before surgery

Precautions & Warnings

- In case of corneal epithelial breakdown, discontinue use of topical NSAIDs
