Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relieve pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decrease eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Pyrrolo-pyrrole group of NSAIDs
- Chemical description: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid
- Prostaglandin synthesis inhibition
- Liver metabolism
- Highly protein bound
- Excretion in urine
Mode of Action
- Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet: Recommended dose 10 mg every 4-6 hours, short-term use only (up to 7 days)
- Injection: Single or multiple doses, IV bolus given over no less than 15 seconds, IM administration given slowly and deeply into the muscle
- Eye Drops: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- Increased side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
- Enhanced anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
- Reduced anti-hypertensive effect with beta blockers
- Increased risk of renal impairment with ACE Inhibitors
- Enhanced toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Children under 16 years of age
- Prophylactic analgesic use before surgery

Precautions & Warnings

- Caution in active/suspected peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, asthma, and liver dysfunction
- Discontinue use of topical NSAIDs with corneal epithelial breakdown
- Avoid administration while wearing contact lenses
