Indications
- Short-term management of post-operative pain
- Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decrease eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Chemical name: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Metabolized in the liver
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet recommended dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours
- Injection for moderately severe, acute pain
- Multiple dosing guidelines based on age and condition
- Eye Drops: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- Increased side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
- Enhanced anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
- Reduced anti-hypertensive effect with Beta Blocker
- Increased risk of renal impairment with ACE Inhibitors
- Enhanced toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Not for use in children under 16 years of age
- Contraindicated as prophylactic analgesic before surgery

Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients over 65 years
- Caution in patients with active or suspected peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, asthma, and liver dysfunction
- Discontinue use of topical NSAIDs in case of corneal epithelial breakdown
- Avoid administering eye drops while wearing contact lenses
