Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relieves pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decreases eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Peripherally acting analgesic
- Linear pharmacokinetic property
- Highly protein bound
- Metabolized in the liver
- Metabolites and some unchanged drugs excreted in urine
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic NSAID
- Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet recommended dose of 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use only, not chronic use
- Injection may be used as single or multiple doses for moderately severe acute pain requiring analgesia at the opioid level
- Eye drops recommended dose of 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- Other NSAIDs or aspirin increase side effects of Lacor
- Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
- Beta blocker reduces anti-hypertensive effect
- ACE inhibitors increase risk of renal impairment
- Methotrexate enhances toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Not to be used in children under 16 years of age
- Contraindicated as prophylactic analgesic before surgery

Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients over 65 years
- Caution in patients with active or suspected peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, asthma, and liver dysfunction
- Discontinue use of topical NSAIDs in patients with evidence of corneal epithelial breakdown
- Do not administer while wearing contact lenses
