Indications

  • Short-term management of post-operative pain
  • Relieves pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
  • Decreases eye inflammation or redness caused by allergies

Description

  • Belongs to the pyrrolo-pyrrole group of NSAIDs
  • Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis
  • Metabolized in the liver
  • Excreted in the urine

Pharmacology

  • Potent analgesic
  • Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
  • Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose

Dosage & Administration

  • Tablet recommended dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours
  • Injection dosage based on age, renal function, and body weight
  • Eye drops: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily

Interaction

  • NSAIDs or aspirin increase side effects
  • Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
  • Beta Blocker reduces anti-hypertensive effect
  • ACE Inhibitors increase risk of renal impairment
  • Methotrexate enhances toxicity

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to this drug or other NSAIDs
  • Not for use in children under 16 years of age
  • Not for use as prophylactic analgesic before surgery
