Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain

Description
- Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID)
- Chemical name: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
- Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis
- Biological activity associated with the S-form
- Linear pharmacokinetic property
- Highly protein bound
- Metabolized in liver
- Metabolites and some unchanged drugs excreted in urine
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Inhibits the cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Demonstrates minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended tablet dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours, short-term use only (up to 7 days)
- Injection may be used for moderate acute pain requiring analgesia at the opioid level
Interaction
- Other NSAIDs or aspirin increase side effects
- Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
- Beta Blockers reduce anti-hypertensive effect
- ACE Inhibitors increase risk of renal impairment
- Methotrexate enhances the toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Children under 16 years of age
- Prophylactic analgesic before surgery

- Eye Drops: Discontinue use with evidence of corneal epithelial breakdown, avoid use with contact lenses
