Indications

  • Management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
  • Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
  • Decrease eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies

Description

  • Belongs to the pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
  • Chemical composition: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
  • Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
  • Biological activity associated with the S-form
  • Highly protein bound
  • Largely metabolized in the liver
  • Metabolites and some unchanged drugs excreted in the urine

Pharmacology

  • Potent analgesic
  • Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
  • Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended tablet dose: 10mg every 4-6 hours, short-term use only
  • Injection for postoperative pain management
  • Recommended single-dose and multiple-dose treatment based on age and condition
  • Eye drops dosage: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily

Interaction

  • NSAIDs or aspirin increase side effects
  • Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
  • Beta Blockers reduce anti-hypertensive effect
  • ACE Inhibitors increase risk of renal impairment
  • Methotrexate enhances toxicity of methotrexate

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
  • Children under 16 years of age
  • Prophylactic analgesic before surgery

  • Eye Drops: Discontinue use with evidence of corneal epithelial breakdown, do not administer while wearing contact lenses
