Indications
- Management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decrease eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Belongs to the pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Chemical composition: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Biological activity associated with the S-form
- Highly protein bound
- Largely metabolized in the liver
- Metabolites and some unchanged drugs excreted in the urine
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic
- Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended tablet dose: 10mg every 4-6 hours, short-term use only
- Injection for postoperative pain management
- Recommended single-dose and multiple-dose treatment based on age and condition
- Eye drops dosage: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- NSAIDs or aspirin increase side effects
- Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
- Beta Blockers reduce anti-hypertensive effect
- ACE Inhibitors increase risk of renal impairment
- Methotrexate enhances toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Children under 16 years of age
- Prophylactic analgesic before surgery

- Eye Drops: Discontinue use with evidence of corneal epithelial breakdown, do not administer while wearing contact lenses
