Indications
- Management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decrease eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Pyrrolo-pyrrole group nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Chemical composition: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Associated with the S-form
- Linear pharmacokinetic property
- Highly protein bound
- Metabolized in the liver
- Excretion in the urine
Pharmacology
- Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet recommended dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use
- Injection recommended in postoperative setting
- Different dosing for different age groups and conditions
- IM and IV administration
- Duration of analgesic effect: 4 to 6 hours
- Eye Drops: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- Increased side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
- Enhanced anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
- Reduced anti-hypertensive effect with beta blockers
- Increased risk of renal impairment with ACE inhibitors
- Enhanced methotrexate toxicity
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to this drug or other NSAIDs
- Children under 16 years of age
- Prophylactic analgesic before surgery

Precautions & Warnings

- Caution in patients with peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, asthma, and liver dysfunction
- Eye Drops: Discontinue use with corneal epithelial breakdown, monitoring for corneal health, not to be administered with contact lenses
