Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery

Description
- Belongs to the pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID)
- Chemical name: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Biological activity associated with the S-form
- Linear pharmacokinetic properties
- Highly protein bound
- Metabolized in the liver
- Products of metabolism and unchanged drug excreted in the urine
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Inhibits the cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet recommended dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use (up to 7 days)
- Injection may be used for management of moderately severe, acute pain
- Administer IV bolus over no less than 15 seconds
- Analgesic effect begins within 30 minutes, with maximum effect in 1 to 2 hours after dosing
- Oral doses should not exceed 40 mg/day
Interactions
- NSAIDs or aspirin increase side effects of Oradol
- Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
- Beta Blockers reduce anti-hypertensive effect
- ACE Inhibitors increase risk of renal impairment
- Methotrexate enhances toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Not for use in children under 16 years
- Not to be used as prophylactic analgesic before surgery

Precautions & Warnings
- Exercise caution in patients over 65 years

- Discontinue use of topical NSAIDs in patients with corneal epithelial breakdown
- Monitor corneal health closely
