Indications
- Management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decrease eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Belongs to the pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID)
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Biological activity associated with the S-form
- Pharmacokinetic property is linear
- Highly protein bound
- Metabolized in liver
- Products of metabolism and some unchanged drugs excreted in the urine
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic
- Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Shows minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet recommended dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours
- Injection recommended dose: varies based on age, patient type, and purpose
- Eye Drops recommended dose: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
- Caution for dosage exceeding recommended limits
Interaction
- Increases side effects of Pair when combined with other NSAIDs or aspirin
- Enhances anti-coagulant effect when used with anti-coagulants
- Reduces anti-hypertensive effect when used with beta blockers
- Increases risk of renal impairment when used with ACE Inhibitors
- Enhances toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Use not recommended in children under 16 years of age
- Contradicted as prophylactic analgesic before surgery

- Discontinue use of topical NSAIDs if evidence of corneal epithelial breakdown
- Do not administer eye drops while wearing contact lenses
