Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decreasing eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Drug of pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Chemical composition: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
- Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis
- Pharmacokinetic property: linear, highly protein bound, largely metabolized in the liver
- Excretion in the urine
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet: Recommended dose is 10 mg every 4-6 hours, short-term use only
- Injection: Administration guidelines for different age groups and conditions
- Eye Drops: Administration guidelines for adults
Interaction
- Increased side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
- Enhanced anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
- Reduced anti-hypertensive effect with beta-blockers
- Increased risk of renal impairment with ACE inhibitors
- Enhanced toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Use not recommended in children under 16 years of age
- Contraindicated as prophylactic analgesic before surgery

- Anxiety, drowsiness, headache, excessive thirst, fatigue, bradycardia

Precautions & Warnings
- Caution in patients over the age of 65 years
- Caution in patients with active or suspected peptic ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding, asthma, and liver dysfunction
- Discontinuation of topical NSAIDs in the presence of corneal epithelial breakdown
- Avoidance of administration while wearing contact lenses
