Description

  • Indicated for short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain

  • Decreases eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
  • Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of NSAIDs
  • Chemically known as 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
  • Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
  • Pharmacological activity associated with the S-form
  • Largely metabolized in the liver
  • Primarily excreted in urine

Indications

  • Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain

Pharmacology

  • Potent analgesic
  • Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
  • Demonstrates minimal anti-inflammatory effect at its analgesic dose

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended dose is 10 mg tablet every 4-6 hours for up to 7 days
  • Injection may be used for single or multiple doses for managing acute pain
  • Single-dose treatment: Different doses for patients based on age and condition
  • Multiple-dose treatment: Different doses based on age and condition
  • Eye Drops: Recommended 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily

Interactions

  • NSAIDs or aspirin increase the side effects of Roket
  • Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
  • Beta Blockers reduce the anti-hypertensive effect
  • ACE Inhibitors increase the risk of renal impairment
  • Methotrexate enhances the toxicity of methotrexate

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
  • Not recommended for children under 16 years of age
  • Contraindicated as prophylactic analgesic before surgery

  • Eye Drops: Discontinue use if evidence of corneal epithelial breakdown, avoid while wearing contact lenses
