Indications
- Short-term management of post-operative pain
- Relieves pain and inflammation after ocular surgery
- Decreases eye inflammation caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Belongs to the pyrrolo-pyrrole group of NSAIDs
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Metabolized in the liver
- Highly protein bound
Pharmacology
- Acts by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet recommended dose 10 mg every 4-6 hours
- Injection dose varies by age and weight
- Eye drops: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- NSAIDs or aspirin increase side effects
- Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
- Beta blocker reduces anti-hypertensive effect
- ACE inhibitors increase risk of renal impairment
- Methotrexate enhances toxicity
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to drug or other NSAIDs
- Not for use in children under 16 years
- Contraindicated as prophylactic analgesic before surgery
