Indications
- Short-term management of acute post-operative pain

Description
- Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Chemical composition: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
- Inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis
- Metabolized in the liver
- High protein binding
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic
- Inhibition of cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet recommended dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours for up to 7 days
- Maximum daily dose recommendation: 40 mg
- Injection for management of acute pain
- Specific dosing for different age groups and conditions
- Duration of analgesic effect: 4 to 6 hours
- Eye drops dosage: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- Increase in side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
- Enhancement of anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
- Reduction in anti-hypertensive effect with beta blockers
- Increased risk of renal impairment with ACE Inhibitors
- Enhanced toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Age restriction: Not to be used in children under 16 years
- Contraindicated as prophylactic analgesic before surgery
