Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decreasing eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- NSAID drug of pyrrolo-pyrrole group
- Potent analgesic by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase enzyme system and prostaglandin synthesis
- Biological activity associated with the S-form
- Linear pharmacokinetic property
- Highly protein bound and largely metabolized in liver
Pharmacology
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended tablet dose of 10 mg every 4-6 hours
- Injection for moderately severe acute pain management
- Specific dosing regimen for different age groups and conditions
- Duration of analgesic effect usually 4 to 6 hours
- Eye drops dosage for adults: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- Increased side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
- Enhanced anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
- Reduced anti-hypertensive effect with beta blockers
- Increased risk of renal impairment with ACE inhibitors
- Enhanced toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Not for use in children under 16 years of age
- Contradicted as prophylactic analgesic before surgery

Precautions & Warnings
- Exercise caution in patients over 65 years
- Caution in patients with active or suspected peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, asthma, or liver dysfunction
- Discontinue use of topical NSAIDs in patients with corneal epithelial breakdown and monitor closely for corneal health
- Avoid administration while wearing contact lenses
