Description

  • Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
  • Relieves pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
  • Decreases eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies

Chemical Composition

  • Pyrolo-pyrrole group
  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
  • 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid
  • 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol

Pharmacological Action

  • Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
  • Peripherally acting analgesic
  • Potent analgesic of the NSAIDs
  • Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
  • Demonstrates minimal anti-inflammatory effect

Dosage

  • Tablet dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours
  • Injection dose: single or multiple doses for acute pain management
  • IV bolus must be given over no less than 15 seconds
  • IM administration should be given slowly and deeply into the muscle
  • Eye drops: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily

Interactions

  • NSAIDs or aspirin increase side effects of Toradolin
  • Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
  • Beta Blockers reduce the anti-hypertensive effect
  • ACE Inhibitors increase the risk of renal impairment
  • Methotrexate enhances the toxicity of methotrexate

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to drug or other NSAIDs
  • Children under 16 years of age
  • Prophylactic analgesic before surgery

Precautions & Warnings

  • Caution in patients over 65 years of age
  • Caution in patients with active or suspected peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, asthma, or liver dysfunction
  • Discontinue use of topical NSAIDs in patients with corneal epithelial breakdown
  • Avoid administering while wearing contact lenses
