Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decrease eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Metabolized in liver
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Demonstrates minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended tablet dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours
- Injection for moderately severe, acute pain management, IV bolus given over 15 seconds
- Different dosing for age and weight categories
- Eye drops: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- Other NSAIDs or aspirin increase side effects
- Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
- Beta Blocker reduces anti-hypertensive effect
- ACE Inhibitors increase risk of renal impairment
- Methotrexate enhances toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to this drug or other NSAIDs
- Children under 16 years of age
- Prophylactic analgesic before surgery

- Discontinue eye drops if evidence of corneal epithelial breakdown
- Avoid administering while wearing contact lenses
