Indications

  • Short-term management of post-operative pain
  • Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
  • Decrease eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies

Description

  • Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
  • Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
  • Associated with the S-form
  • Linear pharmacokinetic property
  • Highly protein bound
  • Mainly metabolized in the liver
  • Metabolites and some unchanged drugs are excreted in urine

Pharmacology

  • Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
  • Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
  • Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended tablet dose: 10mg every 4-6 hours for up to 7 days
  • Injection may be administered as single or multiple doses
  • Analgesic effect begins within 30 minutes
  • Maximum effect reached in 1 to 2 hours
  • Duration of analgesic effect is usually 4 to 6 hours
  • Storage condition: Keep in a dry place away from light and heat

Interaction

  • Other NSAIDs or aspirin can increase side effects of Winop
  • Anti-coagulants can enhance anti-coagulant effect
  • Beta Blockers can reduce the anti-hypertensive effect
  • ACE Inhibitors can increase the risk of renal impairment
  • Methotrexate can enhance the toxicity of methotrexate

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
  • Not to be used in children under 16 years of age
  • Contraindicated as prophylactic analgesic before surgery
