Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relieves pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decreases eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies

Chemical Composition
5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)

Pharmacokinetic Property
Linear, highly protein bound, largely metabolized in the liver
Mode of Action
Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins, acts as a peripherally acting analgesic, minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Tablet Dosage
Recommended dose is 10 mg every 4-6 hours, short-term use only (up to 7 days)
Injection Dosage
- IV bolus to be given over no less than 15 seconds
- IM administration should be given slowly and deeply into the muscle
- Onset of analgesic effect within 30 minutes, maximum effect in 1 to 2 hours after dosing IV or IM
- Duration of analgesic effect is usually 4 to 6 hours
- Different doses for different age groups and conditions for single and multiple dose treatments
- Total combined daily dose of ketorolac (oral + parenteral) should not exceed 120 mg in younger adult patients or 60 mg in elderly patients on the day the change of formulation is made
- Total duration of combined parenteral and oral treatment should not exceed 5 days
Eye Drops Dosage
Adults: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Drug Interactions
- Increased side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
- Enhanced anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
- Reduced anti-hypertensive effect with Beta Blockers
- Increased risk of renal impairment with ACE Inhibitors
- Enhanced toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Children under 16 years of age
- Prophylactic analgesic before surgery

Pregnancy and Lactation
Category C drug, should be avoided unless benefits outweigh risks
Precautions and Warnings
- Exercise caution in patients over the age of 65 years
- Caution in patients with active or suspected peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, asthma, and liver dysfunction
- Patients with evidence of corneal epithelial breakdown should discontinue use of topical NSAIDs and be closely monitored for corneal health
- Eye Drops should not be administered while wearing contact lenses
