Description

Dosage Administration
- Adults: 10-20 mg, every 6-8 hours daily
- Children: 2-4 ml/10 kg body weight, every 6-8 hours daily
- By Rectum: 30-60 mg every 4-8 hours
Pharmacological Action
Dopamine antagonist, gastroprokinetic action, gastrointestinal motility regulation, enhancing gastric emptying and peristalsis
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to the drug
- Neonates
- Gastrointestinal hemorrhage, obstruction or perforation
- Prolactin releasing pituitary tumor
Interaction
- Anticholinergic drugs may antagonize effect
- Antacids and antisecretory drugs lower oral bioavailability
- Inhibition of CYP3A4 enzyme may increase plasma levels
Side Effects
- Transient intestinal cramps
- Rare extrapyramidal phenomena
- Possible increase in plasma prolactin level
- Rare allergic reactions such as rash and urticaria

Caution during first trimester, limited excretion in breast milk, not recommended for nursing mothers
