Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relief of pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Decrease eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins as a peripherally acting analgesic
- Highly protein bound and largely metabolized in the liver
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Inhibits the cyclooxygenase enzyme system and prostaglandin synthesis
- Demonstrates minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet recommended dosage: 10 mg every 4-6 hours short-term only (up to 7 days)
- Injection for postoperative pain: IV bolus given over no less than 15 seconds, IM injection given slowly and deeply into the muscle
- Eye drops dosage: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- Other NSAIDs or aspirin increase side effects
- Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
- Beta Blocker reduces anti-hypertensive effect
- ACE Inhibitors increase risk of renal impairment
- Methotrexate enhances toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Children under 16 years of age
- Prophylactic analgesic before surgery

- Eye drops precaution: Discontinue use with evidence of corneal epithelial breakdown
- Eye drops precaution: Not to be administered while wearing contact lenses
