Indications
- Short-term management of post-operative pain
- Relief of pain after ocular surgery
- Decrease in eye inflammation caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of NSAID
- Chemical composition: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid and 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Metabolized in the liver
- Excreted in the urine
Pharmacology
- Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended tablet dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours
- Recommended injection dose: varies by age and condition
- Recommended eye drops dose: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- Increased side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
- Enhanced anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
- Reduced anti-hypertensive effect with beta blockers
- Increased risk of renal impairment with ACE inhibitors
- Enhanced toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Age restriction: Not for children under 16 years
- Not to be used as prophylactic analgesic before surgery

- Discontinue use in case of corneal epithelial breakdown for ocular solution
- Avoid use while wearing contact lenses for ocular solution
