Indications

  • Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
  • Relieve pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
  • Decrease eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies

Description

  • Belongs to the pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
  • Chemical name: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2-amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol
  • Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis as a peripherally acting analgesic
  • Biological activity associated with the S-form
  • Linear pharmacokinetic property
  • Highly protein bound
  • Metabolized in the liver
  • Excretion in urine

Pharmacology

  • Potent analgesic among non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
  • Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
  • Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose

Dosage & Administration

  • Tablet recommended dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours

Interaction

  • Other NSAIDs or aspirin: Increase side effects
  • Anti-coagulants: Enhance anti-coagulant effect

  • Methotrexate: Enhance toxicity

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to the drug or other NSAIDs
  • Not for use in children under 16 years
  • Contraindicated as prophylactic analgesic before surgery
