Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
- Relieves pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
- Reduces eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies
Description
- Belongs to the pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
- Chemical name: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Associated with the S-form
- Highly protein bound
- Metabolized in the liver
- Metabolites and some unchanged drugs excreted in the urine
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
- Inhibits cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Demonstrates minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Tablet recommended dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use (up to 7 days)
- Injection may be used for management of moderately severe, acute pain
- Duration of analgesic effect: 4 to 6 hours
- Specific dosing recommendations for different age and weight groups
Interaction
- NSAIDs or aspirin increase the side effects of Ketobe
- Anti-coagulants enhance anti-coagulant effect
- Beta Blockers reduce the anti-hypertensive effect
- ACE Inhibitors increase the risk of renal impairment
- Methotrexate enhances the toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Use in children under 16 years of age
- Prophylactic analgesic before surgery

- Immediate discontinuation and close monitoring for corneal health in patients with corneal epithelial breakdown when using Lopadol ophthalmic solution
