Indications
- Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain

Description
- Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID)
- Chemical composition: 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid with 2-amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol
- Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
- Peripherally acting analgesic
- Metabolized in the liver
- Excretion in the urine
Pharmacology
- Potent analgesic
- Inhibits the cyclooxygenase enzyme system
- Minimal anti-inflammatory effect at analgesic dose
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended tablet dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours for short-term use
- Injection for moderately severe, acute pain management
- Different dosing recommendations for different age groups
- Maximum daily dose limits for various patient categories
- Eye drop usage: 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily
Interaction
- Increased side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
- Enhanced anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
- Reduction in anti-hypertensive effect with Beta Blockers
- Increased risk of renal impairment with ACE Inhibitors
- Enhanced toxicity of methotrexate
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ketorolac or other NSAIDs
- Not for use in children under 16 years
- Contradicted as prophylactic analgesic before surgery
