Indications

  • Short-term management of moderate to severe acute post-operative pain
  • Relieves pain, inflammation, and light sensitivity after ocular surgery
  • Decreases eye inflammation or redness caused by seasonal allergies

Description

  • Belongs to pyrrolo-pyrrole group of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
  • Chemically known as 5 benzoyle-2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrroligine-1-carboxylic acid, compound with 2 - amino-2-(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediol (1:1)
  • Inhibits synthesis of prostaglandins
  • Biological activity associated with the S-form
  • Highly protein bound and largely metabolized in the liver

Pharmacology

  • Potent analgesic non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID)
  • Inhibits the cyclooxygenase enzyme system and prostaglandin synthesis

Dosage & Administration

  • Tablet recommended dose: 10 mg every 4-6 hours
  • Injection recommended dose: varies based on age and condition
  • Eye Drops: Adults - 1 drop in each eye 4 times daily

Interaction

  • Increases side effects with other NSAIDs or aspirin
  • Enhances anti-coagulant effect with anti-coagulants
  • Reduces anti-hypertensive effect with Beta Blockers
  • Increases risk of renal impairment with ACE Inhibitors
  • Enhances toxicity of methotrexate

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to ketorolac or other NSAIDs
  • Children under 16 years of age
  • Prophylactic analgesic before surgery
